The number of people becoming homeless and walking the streets to find a place to sleep is increasing – especially with the number of houses being repossessed the highest since 1971 and UBS Invesment Bank warning the credit crunch will get worse before it gets better.
We’ve captured some of the rough sleepers stories on video so you can see what it is like to be homeless and on the streets when you don’t have a drug, alcohol or mental health problem. It’s hard to believe it happens today – we’ve even met married couples sleeping in Sainsbury’s car park.
Our communities need to come together to solve the issue of homelessness as it will only get worse with the financial crisis. Through bringing together local authorities, businesses, charities and faith organisations to work together in their spheres of influence we really can start to make a difference.

I think a Container City could help these people… it is low cost to construct (15-25K per living unit), a great use of temporary land, pays for itself within 5 years through housing benefit. quick to construct and dismantle, environmentally friendly and a great way of building a community… Housing Justice are looking for project partners who are willing to come in and help make it happen. This will be a project specifically to house single homeless people with low support needs.
This could be one solution!
